Posted on May 24th, 2024 by shineuser

At the Shine School of Music in Barcelona, students have the privilege of learning from some of the most talented and versatile musicians in the industry. Among these exceptional educators is Pablo Cabrera, a multi-instrumentalist and composer whose dedication to music has earned him acclaim both as a performer and a teacher. Cabrera’s recent project, Tecé Project, marks an exciting new chapter in his illustrious career, blending the rich musical traditions of Catalonia and the Canary Islands in a unique and captivating way.

Meet Pablo Cabrera

Pablo Cabrera is a masterful musician, proficient in playing the flute, saxophone, clarinet, and piano. He also excels in music composition, a skill he imparts to his students at the Shine School of Music. Originally from Tenerife, Cabrera’s musical journey has taken him from the Canary Islands to London and Barcelona, where he has left an indelible mark as both an educator and performer.

Cabrera’s vast experience encompasses instruction in various instruments and extensive knowledge of film scoring and composition. His contributions to the world of music include composing for films such as *L’Ombra Interior* and *Extraña*. Moreover, he has recorded albums like *Jazztrophobic* and performed with groups such as the Big Band de Begues, Tece Project, and the Goran Slabich Valcan Project.

Introducing Tecé Project

Cabrera’s latest venture, Tecé Project, is a testament to his creative spirit and collaborative ethos. This musical project, a brainchild of Cabrera and Felipe Tejera, brings together a diverse group of musicians from Barcelona and Tenerife. The project’s debut video clip, “Salitre,” is an exquisite representation of alternative jazz infused with Catalan and Canarian musical traditions.

Born out of the need for creative expression during the pandemic, Tecé Project encapsulates the essence of Barcelona’s urban vibe and the mestizaje (cultural fusion) of the Canary Islands. “Salitre” transcends mere song; it symbolizes the unity and shared cultural heritage of the Canarian and Catalan people, celebrating their maritime traditions.

Directed by the talented Rodrigo Cornejo, the video clip for “Salitre” is a visual masterpiece that complements the atmospheric and experimental nature of Tecé Project’s music. The project emphasizes improvisation and innovation, seamlessly blending jazz, Latin, and world rhythms into a mesmerizing auditory experience. Felipe Tejera’s rhythmic prowess and Pablo Cabrera’s melodic saxophone play are at the heart of this musical journey, with each band member contributing their unique flair and passion.

Embrace the Waves of “Salitre”

Tecé Project is not just about music; it’s about creating a cultural tapestry that resonates with the soul. With “Salitre,” Cabrera and his fellow musicians invite listeners to dive into a sea of sound, where boundaries are pushed, and genres intermingle. This project is a celebration of heritage, creativity, and the unifying power of music.

As you listen to the waves of “Salitre,” let yourself be carried away by the innovative spirit and harmonious blend of traditions that Tecé Project offers. Pablo Cabrera’s journey from Tenerife to Barcelona, and his continued evolution as a musician and educator, is beautifully reflected in this project. Posted on May 22nd, 2024 by shineuser

As we draw closer to the end of the school year and summer, Shine students might be preparing their music pieces for the school concert. If you are feeling a bit nervous or performing in the concert for the first time, why not put the following techniques into action!

Shine Combos Concert

Performing in a concert is a significant milestone for any music student, offering a chance to showcase skills and gain valuable performance experience. Proper preparation is crucial to ensuring a successful and enjoyable concert. Here are some essential tips to help you get ready for your big performance.

1.Consistent practice is the foundation of a great performance. To make your practice sessions more effective, set clear goals for each session, focusing on specific sections that need improvement. Use a metronome to develop a strong sense of timing and rhythm. Practice difficult passages slowly to ensure accuracy and gradually increase the tempo. Recording your practice sessions can also help you identify areas for improvement and track your progress over time.

2. Mastering your repertoire is essential for a confident performance. Ensure you are completely familiar with your concert pieces. If your performance requires memorization, practice playing without the sheet music well in advance. Focus on dynamics, phrasing, and expression to bring the music to life, thinking about the emotional story you want to convey. Regularly perform full run-throughs of your pieces to build endurance and simulate the concert experience.

3.Developing stage presence is an important aspect of a successful performance. Practice performing in front of family, friends, or classmates to simulate concert conditions. Work on your posture, movements, and facial expressions to convey confidence and engage your audience. Practice deep breathing exercises to help manage nerves and maintain control.

Planning your pre-concert routine can help you stay calm and focused. Develop a consistent warm-up routine to prepare your mind and body for performance. Eat a balanced meal a few hours before the concert to ensure you have enough energy, but avoid heavy or sugary foods. Drink plenty of water, but avoid excessive consumption right before you go on stage.

4.Taking care of your instrument is crucial to a smooth performance. Regularly clean and maintain your instrument, replacing strings, reeds, or any other components as needed. Double-check your instrument’s tuning before the performance, and bring necessary tools and accessories for adjustments.

5.Mental preparation is just as important as physical preparation. Spend time visualizing your performance, imagining every detail from walking on stage to playing your final note. Focus on positive outcomes and remind yourself of your hard work and preparation. Practice mindfulness or meditation techniques to stay present and calm.

6.Familiarize yourself with the concert protocol to ensure a smooth experience. Arrive at the venue with plenty of time to spare for warm-up and any last-minute preparations. Learn the appropriate etiquette for entering and exiting the stage, acknowledging the audience, and interacting with other performers. Don’t forget to take a bow! Stay informed about the concert program and any changes or announcements.

7.Reflecting on your performance is an essential part of growth. After the concert, take time to reflect on what went well and what could be improved. Seek constructive feedback from teachers, peers, and audience members. Celebrate your achievements and acknowledge the hard work that went into your performance.

8.Preparing for a concert involves more than just practicing your pieces. It requires a holistic approach that includes technical preparation, mental readiness, and understanding concert etiquette. By following these tips, music students can enhance their performance skills, build confidence, and enjoy the rewarding experience of performing. Always remeber that Shine Music School Concerts are relaxed and fun, don’t stress too much if you make a mistake, just continue on and end with a flourish! Good luck, and enjoy the music!
