Sam Russell teaches the Drums at Shine Music School in Barcelona.
“I have been immersed in music since I was 8 years old, and 21 years later, my love for it remains as strong as ever. I am a dedicated and dynamic individual with a deep passion for helping others achieve success and to discover their talents.”
After earning a degree in modern commercial music from BIMM Dublin following five years of study, Sam began his teaching journey at St. Andrews College in Dublin. Seven years later, he made the move to Barcelona, where he continues to teach at Shine Music School, inspiring budding musicians with his expertise and enthusiasm.
“Throughout my professional career, I’ve had the privilege of playing hundreds of gigs across Europe. One of the highlights was when my band was invited to support the legendary Meat Puppets on their European tour.”
Known for their iconic performance alongside Nirvana during the ‘MTV Unplugged’ session in 1995, they remain a cornerstone of alternative rock history.
“During this tour, our band Munky, played 30 shows across the UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Belgium, France, Germany, and Spain. Beyond performing, I also worked as the Meat Puppets’ drum tech, overseeing setup, tuning, and instrument maintenance.”
Sam also recalls the unforgettable experience of supporting Crazy Town, one of the original pioneers of the rock/rap genre, whose hit single “Butterfly” topped the US Billboard Hot 100. “We performed in multiple cities across the UK, including London, Liverpool, Manchester, and Reading,” he recounts.
With his wealth of performance experience and technical knowledge, Sam continues to inspire his students at Shine Music School, providing them with both practical skills and a glimpse into the dynamic world of professional music.
