The Drum Dojo by Sam Russel

A fun and engaging group drumming club designed especially for children aged 5–12. No prior instrumental experience is needed – just energy, curiosity, and a love for rhythm!

Over the course of 8 weeks, students will:

• Play together using snare drums and tom-toms
• Explore sounds through clapping, stick clicks, and rim shots
• Learn rhythm through fun games and call & response activities
• Build teamwork, confidence, coordination, and creativity
• Prepare a 2-minute group performance for Shine’s Jam Session

Each group will have 5–10 participants, meeting every Thursday from 6:00–7:15 pm (60–75 minutes).

At the end of the programme, families are invited to enjoy the group’s live performance, and each child will receive a participation video (with parental consent).

The Drum Dojo will be led by Sam Russell, one of Shine’s dedicated drum teachers. With a degree in modern commercial music from BIMM Dublin, Sam has taught drums for many years in both Dublin and Barcelona. Sam has extensive performance experience, from touring with the Meat Puppets to playing with local bands such as Radiogamma. Alongside teaching, he also performs solo under the name Sam Ludlow.

In his classes, Sam focuses on making music fun, approachable, and creative. He has a natural ability to connect with children, encouraging them to explore rhythm in a playful way while building confidence, teamwork, and a love for music.
